Israel and Palestinians: Explained the history of conflict

Before the latest war between Israel and Hamas, Gaza had the highest unemployment rate in the world. Many people were living below the poverty line and based on food aid to survive.
The borders of Gaza were prepared as a result of the Middle East War of 1948, when it was captured by Egypt.
Egypt was excluded from Gaza in the 1967 war and was captured by the strip by Israel, which built settlements and placed Gaza’s Palestinian population under military rule.
In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew its soldiers and settling from Gaza, although it maintained control over its shared border, airspace and coastline, giving it effective control of the movement of people and goods.
The United Nations still considers Gaza as a Israeli -occupied area because due to the level of control of Israel.
Hamas won the Palestinian elections in 2006, and next year excluded his rivals from the region.
Israel and Egypt in response made a blockade, in which Israel controlled everything that permission in the region.
In the following years, Hamas and Israel fought several major conflicts – including in 2008–09, 2012 and 2014. In May 2021, a major conflict between the two sides ended in a ceasefire after 11 days.
In every round of the fight, people have been seen hitting both sides, most of them kill Palestinians in Gaza.
On 7 October 2023, Hamas fighters attacked Gaza, killing about 1,200 people in Israel and took over 250 hostages.
