Hundreds of new families will be included UK’s biggest review In maternity failures, conclusions were delayed by 2026.

Senior Midwife Donna Okenden launched an investigation to investigate maternal death in September 2022 at Stillbarth, newborn death, injured infants and mothers and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH).

The review recorded over 2,000 cases in 2012 and was expected to be able to reveal its findings by September.

But the deadline has now been pushed back in June 2026 to accommodate the cases of about 300 more families, the Trust of hospitals stated that it “supports the decision”.

The cases are reviewed by more than 120 clinical critics across the country, and the team of experts will be expanded now new cases have come up.

Ms. Okenden said: “Now we hope that the review will have about 2,500 families and will need to move the publication of our final report with additional cases.”

Anthony May, Chief Executive Officer of NUH, said that he supported the decision to expand the review to include new families.

“Since the beginning of the review in September 2022, we have worked closely with Donna Okenden and his team, and it will continue through the publication of the report and beyond,” he said.

“While the review is going on, we will continue to do everything to improve our maternity services.”
