Railway stations and airports across China have seen the largest peak among the passengers before the lunar New Year as millions of people return home to spend holidays with their families in an annual stay that is expected to be a record.
The Chinese New Year, the year of snake, begins on Wednesday.
According to the official Xinhua news agency, during the traditional 40-day period, during and after the holidays, some nine billion interprocessial passenger trips, which run on all forms of all types of transport, are expected.
During this year’s stay, the train and air travel is expected to be a “record high hit”, Xinhua said.
The Ministry of Transport said that it is expected to have 510 million train trips and 90 million air travel during this period.
According to the China Railway, which added thousands of trains to meet the demand was the “main peak” at stations before the holidays on Saturday.
It said that it used data from ticket sales and waiting list to predict and regulate the supply.
Due to better opportunities, there is a large population migration around the New Year holiday, along with many people working and studying in other provinces other than them.
Many factories have already been closed for the holiday, such activists are traditionally returning home compared to the rest of the population.
