Man arrested after running car over police officer

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a vehicle ran over a police officer, seriously injuring her.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said it happened after officers responded to reports of suspicious behavior at a retail park on Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, on Saturday evening.

GMP said the man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and the injured officer has been taken to hospital.

Chief Inspector John Picton said: “This incident is truly shocking, and shows how quickly our frontline officers can respond to situations.”
