Students’ sensitive data ‘accidentally’ shared

A chief teacher has apologized after the private data of hundreds of students was shared with two parents.

This has been reported to the Information Commissioner’s Office after 86,000 lines were emailed to a couple at Wellsway School in Kenshham near Bristol.

After submitting a request for freedom of information, data was sent to them as they felt that the withdrawal room of the secondary school was being highly used.

It also included details of child protection orders and whether students are eligible for free school food.

Head teacher Rob Piercel said that the family assured the school that they had removed the data.

“We have made every effort to ensure that the data has not been shared.

He said, “It was a regrettable mistake and we have apologized to parents.”

The couple initially sent FOI because their “happy and positive” daughter was often being sent to the school’s withdrawal room.

Schools usually have such a place for disruptive students, but parents say it is being used to punish the “small” rules violations in Walesway.

The girl’s mother said that the school run by Futura Learning Partnership is ignoring their concerns.

His father said that the school made him feel that “only we are with whom it is happening”.

The school says that children sent to the evacuation room are given to complete the appropriate and equivalent tasks.
