Who got the approval? Complete list of 2025 Oscar nominations Arts and Culture News

Nominations for the 97th Academy Awards were delayed after deadly wildfires raged in the Los Angeles area.
After two delays due to the devastating wildfires in Southern California in the United States, the nominees for the 97th Academy Awards have finally been announced.
The wildfires haven’t subsided yet, as a new blaze, the Hughes Fire, broke out north of Los Angeles this week.
But nominations continued as scheduled on Thursday, with the divisive, experimental musical Emilia Pérez taking home the most awards.
Among its 13 nominations, one was a history-maker: Carla Sofia Gascón became the first transgender woman to be honored in the Best Actress category.
In the film, she plays a former cartel boss who secretly undergoes gender-affirmation surgery and reinvents herself as a humanitarian in modern Mexico.
But her category will be one of the hottest to watch, with stiff competition from The Substance’s Demi Moore and Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres from historical drama I’m Still Here.
Earning the other 10 Oscar nods was the Broadway blockbuster Wicked, signaling a strong year for Hollywood musicals. The Brutalist, a period drama about an architect who survives the genocide and moves to America, also received 10 nominations.
The academy’s other favorites this year were the Vatican drama Conclave and the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, both of which received eight awards.
The other six nominations went to the zany comedy-drama Enora, about a stripper who marries the son of a Russian oligarch.
Some of the biggest insults came in the crowded Best Actress category, with Maria’s Angelina Jolie, Babygirl’s Nicole Kidman and Emilia Perez’s Selena Gomez all left out in the cold.
But a surprise came in the form of the nomination of Romanian American actor Sebastian Stan, who won recognition for his portrayal of United States President Donald Trump in the film The Apprentice, a cut portrait of ambition and ego.
