Celtic, Rangers and Vale face SPFL charges over fan pyrotechnics
The SPFL said that although it was “fantastic to have over 80,000 supporters attend the League Cup semi-final”, the massive, organized and illegal pyrotechnic displays which were carried out by a small minority of supporters before Celtic versus Aberdeen and Motherwell were “fantastic”. v Rangers matches were completely unacceptable”.
The governing body said in a statement: “This irresponsible behavior caused significant inconvenience to thousands of fans and supporters watching the game around the world.
“The SPFL, the Scottish FA, Police Scotland and other organizations have made clear that such use of pyrotechnics is illegal and poses a clear danger and health and safety risk to fellow supporters, players and people working at matches .
“There have been a number of complaints from supporters regarding these incidents and the SPFL and the Scottish FA have been in discussion with the clubs involved in the weeks since the semi-final.”
Celtic are due to face Rangers in the League Cup final at the national stadium on December 15, when a large crowd is expected.
“The SPFL and the Scottish FA will continue to work closely with the finalists in the build-up to this showpiece opportunity, to reinforce the importance of ensuring a safe and enjoyable match day experience for all supporters, now in the context of the ongoing disciplinary process.” ,” SPFL said.
