The Israeli government ratified the agreement on Saturday morning after a meeting that lasted more than six hours.
The ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas will take effect at 08:30 am (06:30 GMT) on Sunday, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman announced in a post on Twitter.
“Based on the agreement between the two sides… the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip will begin at 8:30 am on Sunday. “We advise our brothers to exercise caution, exercise extreme caution and await instructions from official sources,” spokesman Majid al-Ansari said in a tweet on Saturday.
Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli government ratified the agreement after meeting for more than six hours, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said in a brief statement.
The agreement was approved after more than 460 days of war in which Israeli forces killed more than 46,788 Palestinians and wounded 110,453. In this, 33 detainees held in Gaza will be released in the next six weeks, in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.
The remainder, including male soldiers, are to be released in the second phase, which will be negotiated during the first phase.
Hamas has said it will not release the remaining detainees without a permanent ceasefire and Israel’s full withdrawal.
Al Jazeera’s Hamdah said, “All eyes are now on Gaza to see what the Israeli military is going to do in these final hours, because historically, before any kind of ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military has deployed its full force on the Gaza Strip. Attacks with.” Reporting from Salhut, Jordan.
“There’s going to be a lot of fear and anxiety.”
Naim Qassem, leader of the Lebanese group Hezbollah, congratulated the Palestinians for reaching the agreement, saying it proved the “firmness of resistance” against Israel.
“This deal, which was unchanged from the one proposed in May 2024, proves the resistance groups’ determination to take what they wanted, while Israel was not able to take what it wanted,” he said.
In November, Hezbollah and Israel reached a ceasefire agreement in a conflict parallel to Israel’s war on Gaza.
Israeli attacks continue across Gaza
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continue heavy attacks in Gaza.
Medics in Gaza said an Israeli airstrike early Saturday killed five people in the al-Mawasi “humanitarian zone” area, west of Khan Yunis in the enclave’s south.
The Palestinian Wafa news agency reported that a man from the Qudra family was killed in the attack, along with his wife and three children.
Three Palestinian civilians were also killed in an Israeli drone strike in the Tufa neighborhood, east of Gaza City, late on Friday, according to Wafa.
This brings to at least 119 the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli bombings since the ceasefire agreement was announced on Wednesday.
