A 90-year-old man with Parkinson’s disease is cheered on by three generations of his family as he competes in a weightlifting competition for people over 70 in Taipei, Taiwan.

Cheng Chen Chin-mei lifted 35, 40 and 45 kg during the three-round competition.

“I want to tell all elderly people to engage in workouts. You don’t need to work too hard, but it is to maintain health,” Cheng Chen said.

Contest officials say the program is aimed at helping members of Taipei’s aging population, putting the country on its way to becoming a “Super Aged Society”: a designation given to countries where at least 21 percent of the population is over 65. years and above.

Taiwan aims to establish 288 fitness clubs for elderly people across the country by 2025, with the average age by 2030 expected to be 48.7, according to the report.
